Last call for Leonard "Pappy" Hinton, Unit 600, who passed away this evening at 22:00 hours.
A friend, a brother and a grandfather has been lost and Heaven's gained an angel.

His first fire was dispatched to a chicken house in 1971 and his last call was a structure fire on Baltimore Street in May of this year.

He was past Assistant Chief at East Wood and one of the Founding Fathers and everyone shall remember him as our "Pappy".

Obituary

Leonard Raymond "Pappy" Hinton, 79, of Davisville, WV passed away June 17, 2004 at St. Joseph's Hospital.  He was born May 10, 1925 in Ellenboro, WV a son of the late Howard M. and Esther Marie Richards Hinton.

He retired from John Manville Corp in Vienna, WV  after 34 years of service.  He was a devoted volunteer of 32 years and a founding member of East Wood Volunteer Fire Department whom he considered his family.  He was a US Navy veteran of WWII.

He is survived by two daughters; Pam Lynch and husband Doug of Walker; Sue Ann Nicholas and husband Brett of Strasburg, VA; son Ronald Hinton of Davisville; four brothers Ken Hinton and wife Janet of Mineral Wells, WV, Ed Hinton and wife Betty of Belmont, WV, Harold Hinton and wife Shirley of Florida, Gene Hinton and wife Madeline of Florida; one sister Laura Lee Jones and husband Wheeler of Parkersburg, grandchildren Renee, Amanda, Chad, Willie, Nikki, Crystal, Melissa, Brian and great-grandchildren Wyatt, Morgan, Shawn and Devin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Mary Lou Cornell Hinton and infant sister Estalene Hinton.

Services will be held Sunday, June 20th at 2:00 pm at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, WV with Reverend Jesse Keenan officiating.

Burial will follow at the I. O. O. F. Cemetery in Cairo, WV.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 19th, 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm at the funeral home.
